Where to stay in Nha Trang

Exploring Nha Trang

Nha Trang has some of the best beaches in the country. Though hugely popular, it has a long stretch of sand and never seems overly busy, thus retaining the ambience of a smaller holiday destination. An increasing numbers of visitors are choosing Nha Trang over established places in Southeast Asia, like Phuket, for this reason and for the burgeoning selection of good hotels.

It is good for a short or long trip, with Ho Chi Minh City relatively close and for its great weather and beaches. The local dive industry is huge here and popular dive sites like Electric Nose ensure a steady stream of scuba divers. Along with this is a real town with historic attractions, such as pagodas and ruins, and there is a bit of French flair in some of the older buildings and restaurants. The main beach goes for kilometres and has most hotels in the middle, such as the four-star Novotel Nha Trang and the Nha Trang Lodge Hotel. Also nearby are several islands to head to for daytrips.

Sightseeing near Nha Trang

- Nha Trang Cathedral

The neo-Gothic Nha Trang Cathedral is the main church of Nha Trang, located on high ground a kilometre or so from beach hotels. A decade in the making, the French built the church in the 1930s and included interesting features, such as a Gothic spire and rock floor, while today it is flashed with neon lights.

- Long Son Pagoda

Nha Trang’s biggest pagoda features a large white Buddha image sitting in its meditative pose. The climb to the top of the pagoda is quite an effort, but is well worth it as you are awarded with a fantastic view of the city. The pagoda itself is also pretty impressive, so make sure you have your camera or phone to hand. The pagoda is northwest of the town and a good cyclo ride from the beach.

Transportation near Nha Trang

The beach is long, though you can walk the central bit where most of the hotels are. But for getting to the sights in the north or the town centre, most visitors stick with the meter taxis, motorbike taxis or more touristy cyclos. It s best to use a meter taxi from the airport, motorbike taxis if you’re by yourself (and for speed) and the cyclos for a spot of sightseeing. Air-conditioned public buses serve all districts.
