United Kingdom Accommodation

Search the United Kingdom for accommodation and you’ll probably start thinking of palaces and old-style hotels. Well, you won’t be too wrong, but there are plenty of other options available. The mere mention of United Kingdom brings to mind colonial buildings, members of royalty, iconic ferris wheels, long stretches of green pastures, charming countryside farms and the list goes on. The truth is, there is an endless list of things to do in this remarkable collection of unique nations.

Attractions in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are plenty, including over 20 UNESCO world heritage sites, hundreds of free museums, thousands of parks to stroll or picnic in and millions of acres of countryside to explore and fully immerse yourselves in.

Things to see

If old landmarks are your thing, then the Buckingham Palace in London is an absolute must-see. Tours are open only during summer, and inside you can find priceless works of art found nowhere else in the country or the world. Other landmarks nearby worth exploring include the London Eye, Piccadilly Circus and Trafalgar Square. It’s time to bring those monopoly names to life!

Enthusiasts of living history will enjoy sights of Edinburgh Castle, a majestic royal fortress located on one of the highest points in the city. The castle has been in operation for over 1,000 years, and is still in an amazing state. There is also the Craigmiller Castle, which are mainly ruins but a great photo opportunity nevertheless.

Hotels in the United Kingdom

Exploring the United Kingdom for hotels will be an eye-opening experience, as a vast number of options are available. In general, options include budget hotels, mid-range hotels, privately run B&Bs, holiday homes, backpackers’ hostels, rental apartments, camp sites and for those willing to spend more for luxury, decadent 5 star hotels. Accessibility in the major cities are more than decent, making getting around easier than you think. The metro system is also pretty reliable, so no worries about spending too much time navigating this unique kingdom.

Where to stay

The city of London itself will serve as a great spot to start exploring the city. You can find some of the older buildings here, including the Mansion House and the Old Bailey, the most famous criminal court quite possibly in the world. History and culture enthusiasts staying in this borough will also have easy access to the Tower of London.

Old Town is the historic core of Edinburgh and an ideal place for history buffs among travelers. Places here are well connected via bus and expensive taxis, but some attractions are within walking distance so getting around won’t be a major issue. Attractions here include Abbey and Palace of Holyroodhouse, St Giles Cathedral, Mary King’s Close and many, many more.

How to get to the United Kingdom

The UK is physically linked to France and the Republic of Ireland. Since the UK does not fully implement the Schengen Agreement, there will be passport checks at the borders. Most international flights to the UK will have London as their main hub, and it’s serviced by 6 airports, with London Heathrow being the largest. Getting around London is easiest by tube and bus. The Eurostar high-speed trains connect London to Ebbsfleet, Ashford, Paris, Lille, Calais, Brussels, the Netherlands and more.
