Set on scenic Geographe Bay less than 3 hours' drive south of Perth, Busselton is one of Western Australia’s oldest settlements, and has been a popular vacation spot for Aussies since the 1890s. Busselton's location on Geographe Bay, with its miles of soft sand, provides innumerable opportunities to stroll along or laze on the beach. Inviting, clear waters are ideal for swimming and snorkeling, and you'll find water sports and dive shops renting surf, paddle board, and scuba diving gear along the beach. At the end of Busselton Jetty - the city's main attraction - you can descend 8 meters into the Underwater Observatory to come face-to-face with the 300 species that call the jetty waters home.

Art galleries and museums in Busselton

 

The Busselton Art Society has been championing the arts community for 55 years, and offers painting and drawing classes for both adults and children. Life drawing classes with live models are held at different times during the year. Art lovers should beat a path to the Art Geo complex for a peek into the city's arts and culture scene and Busselton's artisanal heritage. The Courthouse Gallery, built between the late 1850s and early 1860s, houses fine art pieces, jewelry, ceramics, glass, and photography.

Busselton’s historic monuments and national parks

 

As Busselton was one of the first places to be settled in Western Australia, historic buildings abound. You can visit Busselton Museum in Western Australia's first butter factory, or St. Mary's, the state's oldest stone church. Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse, built in 1904, offers fascinating insights into the region's maritime history. Take a 25-minute drive north and you'll find yourself in Tuart Forest National Park. It’s a great place to hike, camp, or view the area's famous wildflowers, from vivid red and pink boronia to kaleidoscopic kangaroo paws.
