Family Fun in Margaret River

Find a place to stay

While Margaret River’s coast is famous for surf, there are plenty of coves and sheltered beaches where children can swim and play in the sand. On days when you want to head away from the beach, there are lighthouses to explore, animals to pet and feed, and mazes to get lost in.

Family-friendly beaches

Margaret River coastline is full of family-friendly beaches and sheltered coves where families can while away the day in the summer sun. Kids will love watching the surfers test the waves at surf beaches like Prevelly, then settle down to build sandcastles and potter about in calmer waters. Or the family can take a walk along the coastal path, before settling down to lunch in a seaside café.

Gnarabup beach

Gnarabup's calm blue waters and white, sandy beaches sit just round the corner from the towering surf breaks at Prevelly, and make a perfect spot for a family day at the beach.

Hamelin Bay

At Hamelin Bay, 30 km south of Margaret River, the open, sandy beach often attracts friendly stingrays, which you can watch swim about as you paddle in the serene, clear waters.

Tour a lighthouse

Perched at the point where the crashing waves of the Indian and Southern Oceans meet, the impressive Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse beckons you to come and see how it works. Towering 39 meters high, and 56 meters above sea level, its beam reaches 26 nautical miles out to sea. You can also see the Old Waterwheel, which once supplied water to the lighthouse.

Mazes and golf

Two things that Margaret River is not short of are mazes and mini golf. Just 4 km south of town is Amaze'n Margaret River, where the whole family can hit the 18-hole, mini golf course, or challenge each other to find their way into, and out of, the 3-meter-high “Giant Hedge Maze.” If that doesn't take your fancy, there are plenty of ground puzzles and games to keep you occupied, like giant chess, checkers, tic-tac-toe, and quoits. Or head out to Chilli Waters for 18 holes and giant golf balls.
