Thirty Three on Hickory is a lovingly restored 1920s weatherboard cottage, and does sourdough pizza and hearty Australian fare. Bellingen has not only a buzzing cultural scene, but also a wealth of cafés and restaurants. Hearthfire’s organic sourdough bread and sweet and savory tarts are legendary.

Sawtell eats

 

The small village of Sawtell, a 15-minute drive south, tempts not only with pristine beaches and an array of shops, but with a host of eating options. The short stretch of First Avenue is home to more than 15 restaurants, bars, and cafés. Split Cafe & Espresso Bar does great breakfasts and lunches, and is also a popular pit stop for cyclists on the coast route. Fig, named for the giant Moreton Bay fig trees that line the street, serves Modern Australian cuisine, using only ingredients from local producers. Guests rave about the organic kangaroo loin with native pepper.
