Family Friendly Attractions in Perth

Find a place to stay

If you’re heading to Perth with the whole clan in tow, you’ll be glad to know there are plenty of attractions aimed at the younger market. As well as museums and theatres hosting their own child-friendly events, you’ll be close to long stretches of sun-drenched coast, and just a short drive from forests and nature reserves where you can explore the great outdoors.

Mind-expanding fun

Although many of Perth's attractions seem to be all about fun, they also have a strong educational element. Whether it's learning about how the natural world works, or enjoying pressing buttons in an interactive exhibit, here are some attractions to inspire little – and big – minds.

Perth Zoo

Perth Zoo covers 41 acres of land, with sympathetic habitats for each of their creatures, and rare plants and flowers growing in-between. You'll see exotic animals from around the world, from sleek cheetahs to cute koalas, and there's a daily programme of events that includes talks, guided walks, and feeding times sure to keep kids entertained.

Scitech

At Scitech, children learn about the universe around them through play, and by watching mind-blowing planetarium and 3D screenings. The exhibits are always changing, but you can always count on fully interactive exhibits with things going pop, fizz and bang as scientific concepts are brought to thrilling life. Even grown-ups won’t be able to resist having a go.

Theme parks

With plenty of sunshine and lots of family holidaymakers coming to the region every year, the local theme parks tend to get busy in high season, and it's often worth booking in advance and turning up early to beat the crowds.

Adventure World

Watery attractions and thrill rides await you at Adventure World. Adults and older kids will love the twisting, turning roller coasters and the colourful flume rides where they can cool down on the hottest days, while younger children will adore splashing around in the pool before enjoying the gentler rides, or just spotting dragons and fairies around the park.

Outdoorsy antics

With so much natural beauty in Perth and beyond, it's a shame to stay in the city all the time. Head out to the sandy coasts and conservation areas for a fine time in the sun.

Cottesloe Beach

Just a 15 minute drive from the city centre, Cottesloe Beach is an ideal spot to relax and unwind, thanks to its long swathe of white sand. There are clear, turquoise seas for paddling or surfing, or you can simply find a shady spot under a palm tree for a family picnic.

Kings Park & Botanic Garden

Set right in the heart of the urban sprawl, Kings Park will feel like a world away from the hustle and bustle. The Botanic Garden is made up of many rare species, with areas of thick bushland to explore from the safety of the trails, and over 3,000 varieties of flowers, trees, and plant life to be spotted. Kings Park also has lots of events on during the summer, from open air theatre to cinema screenings, and kids will love the family favourites that are often shown.

Arirang Korean BBQ Restaurant & Cafe

There are several Korean BBQ joints in Perth, but Arirang scores extra points for having a kids’ menu and a welcoming atmosphere. In this cosy restaurant, adults can enjoy having hot charcoal dishes brought to their table and cooking their own meat, while kids can tuck into generous bowls of bimibap rice, thick udon noodles, or fried dumplings.
